The short answer
Why choose HuntReserve as a Mallard Bay alternative?
HuntReserve is the Mallard Bay alternative for outfitters who want hunters to book them by name on their own website, not through a marketplace. Built with a national marketing team for hunting outfitters, guides, lodges and fishing charters, it covers booking, waivers, payments and marketing, starting at $159 a month with a custom website in the price.
The verdict
Pick HuntReserve if you want your own outfit to be the brand hunters book. You get a website on your domain, a marketing team for Google and AI search as well as Facebook and Instagram, approve-before-book, license scans and pre-filled harvest reports, paid into your own Stripe. Mallard Bay's strength is its marketplace; HuntReserve builds your own.

Ownership
Your brand, your Stripe, your customers
Your brand
Hunters book on your website, on your own domain, under your name. Every page we write and every review we earn builds your outfit, not a platform's.
Your Stripe
Deposits, balances and refunds go straight into your own Stripe account. Card processing is Stripe's standard rate, and you decide who covers it.
Your customers
Your hunters, waivers, licenses and booking history live in your own HuntReserve account. Your reviews and repeat business build your brand, not ours.
Why outfitters switch
What actually changes when an outfit moves from Mallard Bay to HuntReserve, what stays the same, and how to decide. Every Mallard Bay detail here comes from their own website, checked October 22, 2026.
Why do outfitters look for a Mallard Bay alternative?
Outfitters usually start shopping for a Mallard Bay alternative when they want each booking to build their own name. Mallard Bay's strength is its marketplace, where hunters find and book outfitters, and its no-subscription plan carries a 10% marketplace fee. That is a fair trade when you need the exposure. Once you have repeat clients and a reputation, many outfitters would rather hunters search for the outfit itself.
The other reasons are practical. Some want a marketing team that works Google and AI search, not only Facebook and Instagram ads. Some need hunt-day paperwork that Mallard Bay's site doesn't list: every party member registering on their own, guardian co-signs for minors, license scans with a name match, tags and state harvest reports, offline waivers in camp and a waitlist that refills cancellations.
What changes when you move to HuntReserve?
The biggest change is where hunters book: on your website, on your own domain, with your name at the top of the page. That site comes with every package, sized by plan, and if you'd rather keep the one you run today, a Book button or embedded booking page drops into it.
The second change is who brings the hunters. On Full Draw and Trophy Class, our marketing partner works local SEO for the towns and seasons you hunt, Google Ads and Meta ads, monthly content and AI search work, so ChatGPT and Google's AI answers can name your outfit when someone asks for a guide. Reviews after each hunt go to your own Google listing.
The third change is the paperwork. Instead of one organizer filling things in, every shooter or angler on the booking receives a link, registers, signs your waiver and uploads a license that AI reads and checks against the waiver name. The Check-In Board shows who is missing what, with one-click reminders.
What do you keep when you switch?
You keep everything your outfit already depends on, and you keep it under your name. Per-guest payments carry over: turn on per-hunter payment links and each shooter pays their own share, much like Group Pay. Deposits taken up front, automatic balance invoices ahead of the hunt, lodging with nightly capacity and QuickBooks Online sync are all part of every HuntReserve package.
Your customers come with you. We import your customer list and set up your hunts, waivers, lodging and payments with you. Money settles in a Stripe account you own, and your waiver stays your waiver. The ownership and switching sections on this page show how that works and what it costs.
How does a Mallard Bay alternative replace marketplace bookings?
It replaces them with demand you own: search traffic, AI answers, ads and repeat hunters, all pointed at your own site. HuntReserve is not a marketplace and won't list you in a directory of other outfitters. If a large share of your bookings comes from Mallard Bay's marketplace today, plan for that.
What you get instead builds over time. Local SEO puts your pages in front of hunters searching for your species, state and nearby towns. Google Ads and Meta ads fill dates while the organic work grows. AI search work helps assistants describe your outfit accurately. And every hunter who books on your site is your customer the next season, with no commission on the rebook.
Full Draw and Trophy Class have no booking fee, and ad spend goes straight to Google and Meta, so a bigger season doesn't mean a bigger cut.
What does HuntReserve do on hunt day?
It keeps the morning of the hunt quiet. By the time a party arrives, every hunter has registered, signed and uploaded a license, and kids have a guardian's signature on the same form. If someone shows up without paperwork at a camp with no signal, Camp Mode on a tablet captures the waiver and license photo offline and syncs later.
After the hunt, log the harvest by species and guide. Tags in the register get marked used, and HuntReserve drafts the state harvest report for you to copy into the state's site, counting down to its deadline. Processing tracking gives hunters a status page for hides, meat and mounts.
Before the hunt, approve-before-book lets you vet private-land and high-end clients; only the hunters you approve receive a code that unlocks booking. Mallard Bay's site lists quotes but no approval step.
What does a Mallard Bay alternative cost over a season?
A Mallard Bay alternative costs what its plan costs plus whatever comes off each booking, so compare both. Mallard Bay's no-subscription plan has a 10% marketplace fee, and its paid plans are $199 and $399 a month with 0% booking fee, per their site. HuntReserve is $159, $329 or $899 a month, with a 2% fee only on Opening Day.
Run your own season through it. Every $10,000 a 10% fee applies to costs $1,000; the same $10,000 costs $200 at 2% and nothing on Full Draw. The cost table on this page sets the published plans next to each other, and card processing sits on top at Stripe's rate either way.
Is HuntReserve the right Mallard Bay alternative for you?
It is the right Mallard Bay alternative if most of these sound like your outfit:
- You already have repeat hunters and a reputation, and you want new ones to find you by name.
- You want Google search and AI search worked as hard as Facebook and Instagram.
- You run private land or premium hunts and want to approve clients before they can book.
- You deal with tags, harvest reports, minors or camps with no signal.
- You run a club, lease or lodge and need memberships, dues and room capacity next to day hunts.
If your top priority is a marketplace sending you hunters, or an installed phone app, Mallard Bay offers both and may suit you better. For everyone else, request a call and we'll show you the software set up with your own hunts and prices. You can also see every feature or the full buyer's guide to outfitter software.

Questions
Switching from Mallard Bay
Can I switch from Mallard Bay mid-season?
Yes, though the quiet weeks between seasons are easier. Hunts on your Mallard Bay calendar can run their course there while every new booking comes in through HuntReserve. Our team builds out your hunt types, waiver, rooms and payment rules alongside you, so the new booking page is live before you send anyone to it.
What happens to my customers and website?
We import your customer list into your HuntReserve account. Your HuntReserve website is built on your own domain; if Mallard Bay built your current site, ask them how the domain is handled. Any site you control can stay, with a Book button added.
Will I lose marketplace bookings?
Bookings that come from Mallard Bay's marketplace won't come through HuntReserve, because HuntReserve is not a marketplace. On Full Draw and Trophy Class, a marketing team works SEO, AI search and Google and Meta ads to bring hunters to your own site instead.
Can hunters still pay their own share, like Group Pay?
Yes. Turn on per-hunter payment links and every shooter in the party pays their own share into your Stripe. Leave it off and the lead hunter pays. Whoever pays, the balance invoice goes out ahead of the hunt and late payers get a nudge.
Do my hunters need to download a new app?
No. HuntReserve works inside the browser hunters already have: they tap a link to register, sign and upload a license, and your crew uses it the same way on a phone, tablet or laptop. Mallard Bay offers an installed app; HuntReserve doesn't have one.
Will I pay a fee on every booking after I switch?
Only on Opening Day ($159/mo), which keeps 2% of each online card booking. On Full Draw ($329/mo) and Trophy Class ($899/mo), nothing comes off. Card processing is billed by Stripe at its published rates, and you can pass it to hunters or absorb it.
Where do the Mallard Bay details on this page come from?
